The Maharajas – A Third Opinion

October 26, 2005 Garwood Pickjon 0

Along with The Embrooks, definitely the purveyors of the best that the moderndaze ‘60s-garage revival can offer. With every new release, it seems that bassist Ulf is taking over the songwriting credits more and more, […]

October 21, 2005 David M. Snyder 0

From across the river and through the woods over in New Jersey comes the fourth Dipsomaniacs album. A solidly crafted bundle of Pop-Rock, full of winning melodies, fine harmonies, ringing, distorted, chugging guitars, tight rhythms […]

Mascots – Ellpee

October 21, 2005 Garwood Pickjon 0

After their debut album, where they were mostly sticking to the early Beatle-ish Mersey formula, perfecting it with Words Enough To Tell You, by the time of their ’66 sophomore longplaying release, The Mascots were […]

Various Artists – Driving In The Rain: 3AM (Songs To Get Lost With)

October 21, 2005 David M. Snyder 0

Another one of some vintage. The title captures the overall tone of this collection: moody, languid with a touch of regret. The contributors are primarily from the Great White North (Canada to those of you […]

    July 21, 2018 1
Året måste ha varit 1975. Svensk rockjournalistik har ännu inget riktigt fokus. Istället dominerar lika färgglada som fördummande idolmagasin. Och dagstidningarnas rock-recensenter är marginaliserade. Rena rama öknen med andra ord. Ett initiativrikt gäng under musikskribenten [...]

Gary Valentine "The First One" / "Tomorrow Belongs To You" [Beat Records, Beat 001], 1978.

Great solo release from Gary Valentine, mostly known as the bassist of Blondie 1975-1977. He wrote three big favourite songs "X-Offender", "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence Dear" and "Scenery" which did not make the cut for the band's debut album. Oh, dear.

The Monkees "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" / "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" [RCA Victor, 66-1004], 1967.

Swedish release. Notice that on the cover Michael Nesmith song "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" has been chosen as "a-side". This change was also done in Germany with similar cover, though the Swedish release has a different rear (second picture). As far as I know, this was one of two the Monkees singles where the record was made in Sweden.

This was the first released/recorded song containing instruments performed by the band members. Originally recorded with Nesmith on lead vocals, but a later version was recorded with Micky Dolenz replacing Nesmith.
