Turn! Turn! Turn!

Due to the ongoing pandemic, I've had to move and reorganize my computer. We all have to go through these difficulties. In my mind's eye it feels a whole lot better at least in this working corner.

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven

is #nowplaying The Whiffs "Another Whiff" [Dig! Records, DIG009], 12/2019.

Nice reunion and perfect company on a dark Friday night in February.

If interested in further reading, I wrote a little about this grand release at the PopDiggers site.

Dwight Twilley Band "You're My Lover" / "Just Like You Did It Before" [Pop The Balloon, BANG 22], 2003.

French release in memory of Phil Seymour and Gilles Raffier. Gilles, who started the Pop The Balloon label in 1994, died 2003. Phil had passed away already in 1993. Two great people who left us way too early.

Both songs are demos from 1973 (and therefore recorded as Oister which was an earlier name before signing to Shelter). Timeless pop.

Gary Valentine "The First One" / "Tomorrow Belongs To You" [Beat Records, Beat 001], 1978.

Great solo release from Gary Valentine, mostly known as the bassist of Blondie 1975-1977. He wrote three big favourite songs "X-Offender", "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence Dear" and "Scenery" which did not make the cut for the band's debut album. Oh, dear.

The Monkees "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" / "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" [RCA Victor, 66-1004], 1967.

Swedish release. Notice that on the cover Michael Nesmith song "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" has been chosen as "a-side". This change was also done in Germany with similar cover, though the Swedish release has a different rear (second picture). As far as I know, this was one of two the Monkees singles where the record was made in Sweden.

This was the first released/recorded song containing instruments performed by the band members. Originally recorded with Nesmith on lead vocals, but a later version was recorded with Micky Dolenz replacing Nesmith.
