Nick Ashford, one half of legendary songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson, died Monday at the age of 70 in a New York hospital after suffering from throat cancer. Ashford & Simpson wrote classics like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”and “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” for the Motown label and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell.
All written with songwriting partner and wife Valerie Simpson. In 2002, they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
