Green Circles – Black Vinyl Heart

After two albums released only in their homeland down under, this one compiles the best of their powered-up mod rave-ups (check out the reviews of both Australian albums elsewhere on these pages), that is sure to find their place in the “black vinyl hearts” of the European mop-topped kids.

Though clearly influenced by the times gone by, Green Circles put it all into the moderndaze environment, be it the stompin’ mod powerhouse of Make The Night or Wunderkind, the post-mod heavy freakbeat of Kneejerk Reaction, Colour Me There and I’m So Glad, the “revolving” Britsike pair of Given Time and Paper Scissors Rock and the happy-go-lucky cockney-isms of Brown House In Stepney, or the jangly “flamin’” power-pop of You Think I Don’t Know and the Byrds-on-78rpm-sounding In Her Own Time.

The one that does pay a more authentic tribute to the beloved decade, is the live recording of Get On The Outside Of This, with it’s Diddley-beaten mid’60s r’n’b vibe.

As Plonk had put it himself way back in the swinging time, “he dreamt of circles in the air, and in his heart and everywhere …”.
