The last time I felt this enthusiastic about some band coming from an exotic part of the world, was Uruguay’s Los Mockers, and now here’s one of the “collector dreams”, coming from no other place than Malaysia, accidentally reissued also on a Spanish label.
With its English lyrics, this is the perfect equivalent to the late sixties Britsike’s most “Moogy” melodic moments. The fuzzy title song opening with its Nazz-meets-Get-back vibe, with harmonies overload, might be the album’s highlight, after which they tend to slow down generally, but nothing is less that FAB.
These Words I Sing For You, Broken Chair and This Is Our Love Song are all gorgeous classic Beatles/Badfinger/Bee Gees-like ballads with an occasional Rundgren-ized sophistication or baroque string arrangement, and Love Blooms All Over Me takes it towards the Zombie-heaven.
One Fine Day, with it’s irresistibly funky bass line, might pass for Steven Stills-at-his-melodic-best, Take Me Ohio is like Macca combining his Martha My Dear eclecticism with the happy-go-lucky feel of Ob-la-di ob-la-da, while Earth Song and the appropriately titled Dreamseller make the album’s popsike pair.
If you’re looking for what you might call the only adventurous purchase this year, you can hardly make a mistake by choosing this one.
