For those in the know, this might as well be considered for a long awaited follow up to the last album by Canadian power-pop stalwarts The Roswells. Not only does the line up of The Tomorrows feature two of their songwriters (Stewart/Fletcher), but more than one third of the songs were co-written with the third one as well (Reimer). Expectedly, the notion is made even stronger by the content itself.
The catchall (almost) formula that first comes to mind is “Teenage-Fanclub-doing-Byrds-harmonies-against-the-wall-of-Big-Star-guitars”, with Don’t Worry About Me, Pity Her and There’s Something Wrong being the stand-outs among the others alike.
However, with the said description not being too uncommon, to say the least, among power-popsters, it’s another pair that makes me hit the replay button again and again. The first one is, Love Is Dead, a powered up Sell Out-era The Who pastiche, and the other one is a piece of a genuinely Kinky character observation called Ballad Of A Lesserman. Pretty Kool overall.
