The Soup Greens – That’s Too Bad

The Complete Story And Recordings

It might be that some of you won’t be familiar with the name of this mid’60s Brooklyn combo, but if you’ve ever heard the 1978 Pebbles LP, I’m sure you remember one of the most interesting covers of Like A Rolling Stone.

The Soup Greens are the band that managed to turn the song into a Sloopy-ish dance floor stomper. Originally, the song appeared on the b-side of their only single, paired with the title tune, which is a Zombified piece of Merseybeat, sounding not too unlike The Remains at times.

Of the unreleased sessions, the pair that stands out are Hard To Find, which sticks to the above mentioned formula, and Please Don’t Go with its moody Brummels-like feel.

Shed A Tear and You Can’t Have A Woman are fine examples of young Americans trying to catch up with the latest Brit-invasion craze, while Satellite is a kind of a Meek-y spaceish instro.

“That’s too bad” that The Soup Greens’ legacy is so small because it sure does taste good!
