– 26 Rare ‘60s Teen-punk Artyfacts –
After revolving around 33 and 45 RPM exclusively, the Electro Harmonix label decided to catch up with the moderndaze adapting themselves to the pocket-size format.
Compiling some of the best of their Spanish/Latino ‘60s releases, Mas Rock’n’Roll covers most of the decade’s sub-genres, from vocal-surfy twang (Los Sleepers, The Famous Finks), and classic mid’60s beat (Los Gatos Salvajes, Los Shakers), through the essence of crude garage punk as delivered by Los Saicos (described by Lux Interior as “the most garage punk ever !!!”).
Or Los Speakers, who doesn’t seem to get any softer neither, and Los Macs’ ’66-Beatles-gone-primitive sound, to the equally garagey blue-eyed soul dance groove of The 5 Torquays, the funky mod stomp of Los Vidrios Quebrados, as well as some genuine Britsike by Los Walkers.
There’s also a coupla instros sure worth the mention, such as the monster-fuzzy-bass-driven one by Surfers De Los Campeones, the unsurprisingly Batman-inspired one by Bat Boys, a cool funky one by Los Comandos, while the best one is by Los Holys, being a kind of an imaginary spy movie soundtrack.
Might be interesting to bring some of those cool 10”-ers to the digital world too!
