Rock’n’Roll Monkey And The Robots – Back To Beatsville

All of this monkey business is being managed by Craig Campbell, and for the occasion, he gathers a line-up of Robots, featuring hired gunslingers such as Chris Jack of The Routes, Andy McGibbon of The Bonnevilles and Craig “Nine” Cholette of Ron Asheton’s Empty Set, all enough a guarantee for a punked up r’n’b soundtrack for a ride all the way to Beatsville … and back.

Appropriately enough, the set opens with Hitch A Ride To Beatsville, a garage punker, halfway between The Stooges and The Fall, which is not the only one recalling the said combination. Time Machine and Ride Equus Ride get even closer to the source, providing a spooky elevator ride, with Roky as an operator, and on an even moodier side of ‘60s teen punk, some of the tracks like I Need You Here By Me or Real Live Boy are being slightly updated by way of ‘80s Paisley Underground. Hopefully not in the distant future, but this monkey’s sure to go to heaven.
