Having an author like Brian Kassan, this band have no worries about such syndromes like “the second album”, “lack of diversity” or anything else concerning their repertoire.
After their self titled debut, full of sophisticated pop jewels, Chewy Marble return with an even wider spectrum of sounds that will make you “chew” it for quite a long time, and then, instead of spitting it, you’ll want to swallow it and make it a part of you forever.
Of course, The Beatley soundscapes are the most frequent ones, but there are so many different aspects of them that it all comes out just fine. You’ll hear a classic “Harrisolo ”incorporated with the nutty Madness-like staccato rhythm of Inside Your Head, then some bass “Maccaronies” by Derrick Anderson, sounding like Paul after he had dropped the Hofner, along the melodic popsyke sound of Tiny World and the title tune, complete with backwards guitars.
There’s also an audio-omnibus that’s gonna make you feel like you’re walkin’ down the Abbey Road along some of Paul’s outtakes, complete with George-ous wah-wahs, appropriately called Scribble Variations, as well as a taste of John’s solo work in You Don’t Have To Go.
Giving you more Reasons Why to love this record, is a super-catchy, jazzy “midtempo trap”, which, by the way, is the title of yet another great tune with a lyric that goes
“…the harmony stuck in their heads, even Brian Wilson got out of bed”.
How can you possibly go wrong with a line like this?!?!
And after all these ear candies, I just can’t help but mention the love story about Annie, told by the power-pop language, with the great instrumental Mendes-ert, leading you into the grand finale of the song.
This should be enough to make all of you go “chewy chewy”!
