Take a bunch of dedicated mod revivalists, all providing their own share of musical legacy throughout the last three decades, spice it all up with the presence of one genuine sixties mod, put them all together into the studio equipped with gear that is sure to take you way back when it all began, name them after a legendary sixties hang-out, release it on a label called Biff Bang Pow! and what can you possibly expect to get except a full-blown mod blast?!
The above mentioned “in-crowd” in question, features drummer Buddy Ascott of The Chords, guitarist Simon Stebbing of The Purple Hearts, vocalist Mark Le Gallez of The Risk, Hammond player and vocalist Fay Hallam of Makin’ Time and on bass, Mike Evans himself of, quite possibly, the ultimate mod band, The Action!
What they came up with, during a weekend session, is a pair of Hammond-fuelled blue-eyed soul stompers Soul Searching and Love & Understanding), as well as another heavier piece of soul (Seeds) of the kind provided by Fay on her Fay Hallam Trinity debut (rewieved elsewhere on these pages).
As I understand, this is meant as a one-off project, though it might be interesting to see/hear another gathering of likeminded souls, with maybe an additional “face” or two … Eddie Phillips, Lindsay Muir …?
